Before you purchase a sex toy, you naturally lust after the sexual pleasure it’s going to give you. You read about how big it is, how many vibration settings it has, and how it’s going to produce otherworldly orgasms inside your body. One thing that you might gloss over, however, is sex toy storage.
Why is it important to store your sex toys?
Many of us (myself included) are guilty of throwing all of our sex toys into a plastic bag, stuffing them under our bed, and thinking nothing of it until sexy time rolls back around. However, sex toys are actually very delicate and can become damaged/dirty if you don’t store them properly, rendering them useless and unappealing over time.
Cleanliness
If you don’t store your sex toys properly, they can become dirty and dusty due to dust particles in the air landing on them. If you don’t wash them all the time, then leftover lube and bodily fluid residue can mix with the dust and create a cocktail of nastiness that no one wants to deal with.
Unclean sex toys can lead to bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, STI transmissions, and a build-up of harmful bacteria for women. Many men’s sex toys, including fleshlight products, can actually go moldy if they’re not cleaned and stored properly.
Damage
As Anabelle Knight from LoveHoney explains, certain sex toys can become damaged if they are not stored properly. This is especially a problem for jelly rubber sex toys, which can become warped and “melt” if they touch other sex toys for long periods of time. The toys can also become discolored and bacteria-laden too… ew.
We don't recommend buying jelly rubber sex toys or any other toxic sex toys.
Sex toys should not touch in storage. For example, you should use ziplock bags, clean socks, satin pouches, or the toys’ original boxes if they’re stored in the same place. This is especially true for jelly rubber toys, whose chemicals can be unstable and see them “melt” due to chemical reactions.
Discretion
Of course, many of us live with family members, housemates, roommates, and even partners who we want to keep our sex toys a secret from. Properly storing your sex toys in purpose-made adult toy boxes or stealthy sex toy carrying cases means that you can keep them hidden and out of view from prying eyes.Best Sex Toy Storage Boxes and Bags
These sex toy boxes and dildo bags come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny little bullet vibrator pouches to medium-sized lockboxes to huge ottoman-style sex toy chests. Many of these sex toy storage solutions prioritize a discreet and stealthy appearance – you may be able to hide your sex toys in plain sight with some of these products!
Even if your living situation means that you don’t have to hide your sex toys away, it’s just not a good look to have a dildo collection strewn across your house.
Best for features – Joyboxx
Comes with a drying rack and everything
This plastic sex toy box comes with multiple features, to the point where it may be a little bit overkill and unnecessary. However, the drying rack inside this box makes it a great place to let toys air-dry after cleaning without being seen by prying eyes. There’s also a small hole in the back which allows you to pass certain wire chargers through, but it’s not anything to write home about. This is a good product, but it seems a bit overly complex in some ways.
PROS: Washing rack, drying rack, air holes for ventilation
CONS: Plastic case feels cheap
Best for moving sex toys outside
Subtle and sexy gym-style bag
Sometimes you want to take your sex toy collection on a journey with you. Perhaps you’re moving house, or maybe you’re just going on a naughty vacation with your partner. Well, if you’ve got a bunch of sex toys to move discreetly, this sexy waxed canvas bag has got you covered. It looks like something Christian Grey would take to the gym before he fucks you silly on top of it. It walks the line between sexy and discreet.
PROS: Sexy waxed canvas construction, internal zips and pockets
CONS: Expensive
Best for hiding toys in your bed
Disguised pillow storage!
If you have a ton of cushions/pillows on your bed, then this pillow is great for you. The interior is moisture-proof, so your sex toys aren’t going to go moldy inside, and then thick padding around the outside of the pillow makes it hard to feel anything hidden in the middle. I mean, I wouldn’t give it to guests to sleep on, that’s just playing with fire… but it blends into a bunch of casual pillows pretty easily.
PROS: Moisture-proof lining, comes in various colors
CONS: Pricey for what it is
Best for Game Of Thrones fans – Dragon Egg Storage
Mother of bullet vibrators
If you’re into Game Of Thrones, then this Daenerys Targaryen-inspired dragon egg is designed to hide little bullet vibrators and sex toy accessories inside. It’s a cute idea and it’d blend in easily amongst other memorabilia or action figures, but I think it’s a tad overpriced unless you’re super into GoT.
PROS: Subtle, fun geeky item
CONS: Very small, expensive
Best for naughty Grease fans – “Rizzo” sex toy bag
Rizzo would approve
Inspired by Rizzo and her Pink Ladies clique, this naughty sex toy bag has a cool retro design and polyester/denim construction. It also comes with a small leather flogger attached, so it’s great for some light impact play on the side. Maybe you’ll end up with a bun in the oven.
In case you didn’t know, Rizzo was the “bad girl” of Grease before Sandy came for her gig at the end of the film.
PROS: Cool ‘50s design, comes with a small leather flogger
CONS: Not very big
Best budget sex toy carrying case
Cheap versatile carrying case
Clocking in at only $15, this product is great for storing sex toys cheaply. Its PVC-coated nylon is waterproof, so lubes cannot spill out, and the plain design of the bag means that you can use it for everyday traveling if you like – it’s not limited to just sex toys.
This is a great cheap versatile carry bag; it’s just a shame that it doesn’t come with a built-in locking mechanism.
PROS: Nylon and faux leather construction, waterproof inside
CONS: Very basic design, no lock
Best for glass dildo storage
Keep your toys nice and warm
If you’ve read our guide on the best glass dildos, you’ll know that glass is temperature-responsive, so it warms up or cools down according to its environment. This electronically warmed storage pouch hence makes a great place to keep glass toys if you like them warm on your downstairs area. It’s very expensive, but it does have a stealthy design at least. Just keep an eye on your electric bill.
PROS: Discreet design, keeps your toys warm
CONS: Very expensive
Best for a Dominatrix
Bespoke sex storage trunk with drawers
If you’re a professional dominatrix or a BDSM fan who’s got a lot of disposable income, then this sex toy trunk could be yours for a couple thousand dollars. The trunk is made to order from leather, vinyl, and stainless steel, creating a strong and sturdy sex toy trunk that will surely last for years. Inside, the trunk has hooks for hanging whips and paddles, as well as several drawers for housing various sex toys and accessories. This is advanced sex toy storage and I’m here for it.
PROS: Very stable, made-to-order
CONS: Very expensive
BDSM stool meets adult toy box
Subtle and sexy
This BDSM stool is essentially a giant adult toy box made from wood and red leather. It features chains on the side (which you can be attached to during sex) and it fastens with a sexy black leather strap which could double up as a whip for impact play. Opened via lock and key, the inside space has tons of storage for sex toys, bed sheets, or whatever you want to put in there.
PROS: Rustic look, red leather detail
CONS: Pricey
Best for organization
Cute sex toy carrying case
These sex toy carry cases from LoveHoney come in a range of sizes to suit your needs, and the insides are compartmentalized to help you store lube, condoms, bullets, and full-size dildos as you need. The products come with a heart-shaped combination padlock, which is a nice touch, but the case is embossed with the LoveHoney logo. If your friends/family have seen the LoveHoney logo before, this might give the game away.
PROS: Internal pockets/zips for organization, comes with combination padlock
CONS: Embossed with LoveHoney logo (i.e. not super subtle)
Best for hiding in wardrobes
Holds up to 20lbs of sexy fun
Do you have an extensive collection of clothes and some small sex toys to hide? Well, this stealthy storage pouch attaches onto a clothes hanger and hangs in your wardrobe like a horny ninja ready to strike. It’s not the biggest thing in the world, but it can support 10-20lbs of weight if needs be.
You know that blazer or top that you never wear? Now it can be used to disguise dildo storage pouches.
PROS: Easy to hide, blends into your wardrobe
CONS: Could weaken your wardrobe rail if too heavy
Where to hide sex toys at home
Maybe you’re not looking to buy fancy storage boxes or a dildo disguised as an old blouse – I get it. Here are a few DIY sex toy storage solutions to try at home.
Under-bed storage boxes
Those storage boxes that slide under your bed are not only space efficient, but very discreet too. I mean, people don’t accidentally go looking under your bed.
Wooly socks
Got some thick wooly socks that only get worn in winter? Wrap your sex toys up in them and put them at the bottom of your sock drawer!
Tampon box
If you’re a woman, try hiding smaller toys in your tampon box. If there’s one thing people don’t wanna go diving into, it’s a woman’s tampon box.
Hung-up jackets
Got a few jackets in your wardrobe that you don’t wear much? Try hiding toys in some of their pockets! This is especially good for jackets with zip pockets and thicker materials like leather.
Top of wardrobe
If you’ve got children, it’s best to keep toys high up and out of reach. Try hiding your toys on the top shelf (or on top of) your wardrobe to keep innocent eyes at bay.
Conclusion
We write a lot about sex toys here at The Sex Toy Collective, but this is the first time we’ve talked exclusively about storage. Everyone’s hygiene and discretion situations are different, but we hope this article has shown you good storage practice and given you ideas on how to hide sex toys. Have fun!
The section about not storing silicone toys together because they’ll melt together is wrong. The article linked says it’s not true for silicone, it’s other toys made of jelly that have that issue.
You’re totally right, that was a mistake on my part! I’ve gone back in and changed this. Thanks for the heads up! 🙂
