The LELO Gigi claims to be the world’s best-selling G-spot massager. That’s a huge claim to make… so I’ve taken it upon myself to investigate this personally.
About the G-spot
Ahh the elusive G-spot… where is it and does it even exist? Let’s start by clarifying any confusion… YES it exists, and here are specific instructions on how to locate it.
The G-spot is about the size of a small coin. It is an area of spongy tissue located along the frontal wall of the vagina, about 2-3 inches (5-7cm) from the vaginal opening.
To find it, insert two fingers into your vagina and curl your fingers up towards the wall of your stomach. It helps if you use some lube and are aroused when doing this as your G-spot hardens and becomes engorged when you’re turned on. When you make contact with a bean-shaped area that is more textured and slightly rougher than the smooth vaginal walls, congratulations – you’ve found your G-spot!
If you haven’t had a G-spot orgasm, you’re in for a treat! They’re very different to the clitoral orgasm (the most common type of orgasm). In my experience, G-spot orgasms are way more intense – they’re like an explosion from your inner core gushing over your entire body… a sensation that’s pretty indescribable.
The LELO Gigi is designed for targeted g-spot pleasure. Its signature tip features a sculptural curve and flattened head specifically designed for exploring the G-spot. With promises of unlocking and elevating G-spot orgasms, it also serves as an effective clitoral stimulator. This compact and versatile toy has a global cult following... and that’s why I’ve been super excited to try it out!
Here, I will be reviewing the Gigi 2, which is the latest version of the original Gigi. I go through each aspect of the device, my experience using it, tips and tricks, its limitations, the differences between the original Gigi and Gigi 2, and end with a checklist of whether this toy would be suitable for you.
The Device
Material
As with all LELO products, the Gigi is made with premium body-safe materials – FDA-approved medical-grade silicone and ABS plastic. This means it is anti-bacterial, non-porous and hypoallergenic. Honestly, I’d expect nothing less from my sex toys.
Did you know many toys contain toxic materials? The sex toy manufacturing industry is poorly regulated, and this means many of us are unknowingly absorbing bacteria and toxins through porous toys. This is crucial to be aware of and you can read more about it here.
LELO’s premium silicone not only provides peace of mind, its matte texture is also ultraaaaa-smooth… so damn velvety and luxurious I can’t stop touching it! It is also lint-resistant, making it easy and convenient to clean.
Design & Size
With LELO’s sleek and elegant style, this petite device packs a mighty punch… it’s surprisingly powerful for its size. It is also light enough so that you don’t get that dreaded “aching arm with pins-and-needles” syndrome. Yes, this is a totally legit and terrible condition that occurs during longer sessions.
- Size: 6.5in. x 1.4in. x 1.3in. (165mm x 35mm x 33mm)
- Weight: 2.8oz. (79g)
- Diameter: 1.5in. (37.8mm)
- Insertable Length: 3.7in. (95mm)
Based on my experience and other reviews, the Gigi’s gentle curve suits most anatomies. Of course, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all for sex toys, but this appears to be a good fit for most.
Noise
I’ve owned, tried, tested, rejected, played with my fair share of vibrators… and something I’m quite particular about is the level of noise it makes. It’s not that I’ve got housemates to hide from or am embarrassed about using a vibrator, but that jarring buzz gets on my nerves and disrupts the otherwise sensual experience, whether using it solo or with a partner.
So I’m relieved that this doesn’t disappoint. If you want to get technical, according to LELO, its frequency is 100Hz and its maximum noise level is <50dB. If you’re not quite sure what that means, let me personally verify that its claims to be “whisper-quiet” are true.
This makes it a good option for those who are looking for something discreet. Perhaps you have a roommate, live in a house with thin walls, are feeling bored in a library, getting frisky on a plane… the possibilities are endless.
Travel lock
Speaking of planes and taking this places, the Gigi is very travel friendly. Not just because of its small size, but also its travel lock. This is a highly practical function which could help to avoid any potential awkward scenarios involving accidental vibration-activation!
Battery
Convenience. Convenience. Convenience. If you’re still using a vibrator with disposable batteries, what are you doing with your life? Your phone, laptop and other daily devices use rechargeable lithium batteries… why should your trusty vibrator be any different?
Don’t get caught in a dead battery “surprise”. Yes, I’ve been there, and no, I refuse to go to the corner store at 1am to buy a packet of batteries… ever again.
Rechargeable batteries also reduce the weight of the toy, which adds to the overall user experience. Each charge lasts you for a while – this just has to be charged once a month on average.
• Battery: Li-Ion 920mAh 3.7V
• Charging: 2hrs at 5.0V 500mA
• User Time: Up to 4hrs
• Standby: Up to 90 days
Vibration modes & settings
The Gigi might be a small device but its vibrations are strong and intense. The combination of its velvety smooth texture and powerful vibrations makes it easy to reach orgasm, with very little effort required.
There are 5 vibrational patterns in the Gigi and 8 patterns in the Gigi 2. They include options like short and extended interval pulses, escalating waves, rollercoaster patterns, and the good ol’ continuous vibration.
Controls
Its four-button interface makes it simple enough to use.
+ start button; increase vibration intensity (press and hold to go straight up to full speed)
- decrease vibration intensity
^ next vibration pattern
v previous vibration pattern
I personally don’t use the patterns much since I feel like I get more control using the continuous vibration mode, but the patterns are really great for teasing and foreplay.
The Experience
The greatest appeal of this toy is its versatility. As I’ll explain in this section, it can be used in a variety of situations and settings.
Solo or partnered up
The Gigi is one of those toys that works really well for both solo play and with a partner. It’s sleek, handy, easy to use and non-intimidating… making it easy to introduce in the bedroom. Take turns using it on each other’s nipples during foreplay… on the clit during penetration… against your g-spot while receiving oral sex… so many possibilities!
Gentle or rough
Whether you prefer a gentle murmur or a strong buzz that will make you tremble, this has it all. Look, it’s by no means the most intense toy that ever exists… but it does a very impressive job especially for its size.
What I appreciate the most is that the Gigi is compact and sturdy enough to provide good control over how much pressure you apply to targeted areas. So if you want to turn things up a notch, you get to decide how hard to press it against your G-spot. This is not the case with softer toys that are less firm and therefore more difficult to control with precision.
Hands-free
There are few things better in life than a hands-free vibrator. The Gigi is one of those where you can either have absolute control over how you manoeuvre it or use it hands-free. This is easily achieved with your legs pressed together…or thighs crossed…or lying down on your stomach… Get creative with it! I personally enjoy using it while crossing my thighs as this leaves my hands available to grab other body parts.
Internal or external
The Gigi isn’t just a G-spot massager, it has also been designed to be used on the clit – just flip it over and ta-dah it’s a clit stimulator too! I love the feeling of the flat head sliding over my clit as the sensation covers a greater surface area than a regular bullet vibrator.
HOT TIP: Tease your labia, inner lips and vaginal opening with the Gigi without penetration… these areas have a LOT of nerve endings and are often bypassed. It’ll also make your G-spot swell up and help you achieve maximum pleasure when you press the Gigi against your G-G.
Not just between the legs
This is a multi-functional vibrator that can be used on other body parts. Use it on yourself as an actual massager and work on those tight knots in your neck and shoulders… or slide it down your partner’s body during foreplay.
Here are some erogenous zones to explore with the Gigi:
- Back of the knees
This area contains lots of nerves that are rarely stimulated. Its proximity to your thighs makes it conducive for erotic foreplay. With your partner, use a combination of your mouth, tongue, fingers and the Gigi to kiss, lick and stroke the back of their knees, leading up to their thighs… massaging with different pressures, from light to deep… towards their inner thigh and other intimate areas.
- Nipples
For some people, nipple stimulation sends the same sensation to the brain as vulva and clitoral stimulation. Some can even climax from nipple stimulation alone. I enjoy using the Gigi on the nipples as its size and texture are perfect for it… not to mention it takes nipple stimulation to a whole new level compared to just using your fingers or mouth… I love seeing how it makes my partner shudder with pleasure.
- Neck
For some, being touched on the nape of their neck is an even huger turn on than breast or nipple stimulation. Give your partner a sensual neck massage with the Gigi, making use of its various massage patterns and pressures.
These sensitive areas are very receptive to touch and prone to heightened arousal, presenting great opportunities to experiment with different sensations… from soft nibbles and licks, to playful caresses, deep kisses, gentle murmurs on the surface and firm vibrations…
Anytime, anywhere
The Gigi 2 features LELO’s new vacuum sealed charging port, making it 100% waterproof up to a depth of 1 meter. So in addition to its compact size and discreet sound, this is truly something you can use anywhere, from your bedroom, to the library, to the bath, to a jacuzzi… your imagination (and inclination towards exhibitionism) is the only limitation!
Newbies or pros
If you’re new to sex toys or masturbation, the Gigi’s sculptural design targeted for the G-spot might just be what gets you acquainted with yours. The large circumferences of its flat head could help you explore your clitoris if you’re still not too familiar with it. This toy’s versatility makes it a great option for someone looking for their first toy. It is also non-intimidating with its petite size and non-phallic appearance.
If you’re more experienced with toys, this still provides a very satisfying experience especially when travelling. I sure as hell am not taking my Magic Wand or 10-inch dildo with me in my bag… this fulfils all my needs anytime, anywhere.
Tips
Warm yourself up by starting with your nipples, then sliding the Gigi between your legs. Holding the Gigi upside down, place its head gently on your clit. Play with the different vibration modes and tease yourself as you get wet.
When you’re ready to insert it, don’t be afraid to use some lube. Remember, lube is your friend! Angle the handle downward as you slide it in… starting with the lowest vibration setting, slowly and gently move its head along the frontal wall of your vagina till you hit your G-spot… there won’t be any doubt when you find it.
You may move back and forth along the G-spot by manoeuvring the toy or thrusting your hips. You might want to press harder to apply direct pressure on your G-spot or simply hold it against the area while exploring the different vibration patterns. And as mentioned previously, you can also use it hands-free by crossing your thighs or lying on your stomach.
Slowly increase the intensity and play with the combination of patterns to find your favourite mode. You can build yourself up to a climax by focusing the vibrations on your G-spot, or if you’re more accustomed to a clitoral orgasm, pull it out when you’re close and press it on your engorged clit for the final push towards climax.
Regardless of how you decide to use the Gigi, get ready for an explosive orgasm.
This is definitely one of those toys that can and will make you cum quickly. So if you want to extend your play, do keep that in mind, perhaps by switching between modes or not concentrating too much on one spot.
Cons
Cleaning
While the Gigi is fully waterproof and its premium silicone makes it easy to clean, do pay extra attention to the ridge between the silicone and plastic part of the toy. Ensure you get into the grooves to prevent any nasties from building up in there. Give the toy a good clean with warm water and soap before and after each use and you’ll be all good!
Size
Out of the total 6.5 inches, 3.7 inches is insertable. This is more than enough to reach the G-spot for most people. However, all anatomies are different and if you’re more accustomed to lengthier toys, you might be missing some length with this one.
Power
While this is more than powerful enough for myself and most other reviewers, if you are an absolute power-queen and your G-spot requires extra strength stimulation, you might need something more “heavy duty”.
Grip
Some users have reported finding the handle slippery when wet. Obviously, this isn’t an issue unique to the Gigi. Since LELO tends to update their products based on consumer feedback, perhaps they might consider adding a non-slip grip or a finger loop (like the Soraya) if they decide to do a Gigi 3?
Some users have also reported that the 3-inch handle is too short, making it difficult to handle and control. Because it is difficult to get a firm grip, the toy sometimes slides inside deeper than it should, making it difficult to access the buttons. While I don’t personally experience this, I think the key is to figure out the best way to hold it by testing out different grips. Like with all toys, it’s important to let yourself play around with it a little before finding what works for you. Also, let’s remember that this is a g-spot stimulator; if you’re looking for a traditional dildo for deep penetration, this isn’t it.
Buttons
The four buttons are a bit crowded, making them a bit finicky to use and press correctly while in the middle of a session…you might end up pressing two or three buttons at once.
However, I actually really appreciate that the four buttons provide more control – giving the option to go back to the previous mode if you accidentally skip it, unlike most toys without the “back” function, which force you to keep pressing through the entire cycle to get back to the start before returning to the mode you skipped.
Maybe if LELO decides to produce a Gigi 3, they may consider repositioning these buttons so they serve the same functionality but are more spaced out.
Gigi 1 vs Gigi 2 – what’s the difference?
So, what’s different about the Gigi 2 compared to its predecessor?
Retaining its signature flattened tip which everyone loves, it has made the following upgrades:
Softer than ever
The Gigi 2’s delicate velvety texture is such a delight. LELO’s upgraded silicone is so soft and luxurious to the touch that it makes it impossible not to use this on other parts of the body.
More vibration patterns
The vibrational modes have increased from 5 to 8 in the Gigi 2. More possibilities, more fun.
Double the power
The Gigi 2 has upgraded motors operating at 2X more power than the original. Say hello to amped up vibrations for higher peaks and a stronger climax!
Fully waterproof
The Gigi 2 is 100% waterproof up to 1m. Get creative – use it in the bath, the shower, the spa, the sea… wherever you desire. Not to mention, this means it’s even easier and quicker to clean.
But this hasn’t changed…
As with all LELO products, both the Gigi and Gigi 2 have a 1-year warranty and 10-year quality guarantee. Just register your toy to reap the full benefits of LELO’s customer support.
